Why this writes out every round instead of just a stitch count
A cast-on count and a decrease plan tell you the shape, but a real pattern tells you exactly what to do round by round — including the specific decrease stitch for your chosen stitch pattern, and the running stitch count after every round so you can check your work as you go. This generator writes that full pattern out, the same way a designer would, tailored to your exact gauge and size.
This is worked bottom-up, in continuous rounds
Cast on the full brim circumference first, work straight up through the body, then decrease at the crown to close the top — no magic ring or top-down crown increases involved. Every round is joined and turned the same direction (or worked in a continuous spiral, if you prefer no join at all; just skip the "join, ch 1" instructions and keep working around).
Swatch first, then trust the pattern
This pattern is only as accurate as the gauge you enter — work an actual swatch in your chosen stitch, measure it after washing/blocking, and use that real number rather than a guess. A gauge that's off by even one stitch per 4 inches can shift the finished hat by a meaningful amount over a full head circumference.
