A can cozy is just a straight tube
Unlike a bottle, a can holds the same circumference from base to rim, so this generator skips any taper or decrease shaping entirely — chain to the full circumference, then work straight rounds until you reach the target height.
This is worked bottom-up, in continuous rounds
Chain the circumference, join without twisting, then work straight rounds to height. Join and chain 1 at the start of each round, or work in a continuous spiral without joining if you prefer — either way, the stitch counts stay the same.
A snug fit matters more than an exact one
A can cozy relies on stretch and a snug grip to stay put, so if your gauge swatch runs slightly tight compared to the pattern's, that's usually a good thing here — when in doubt, size down slightly on circumference rather than up.
