Why the last stripe rarely lands clean
A stripe sequence is just a repeating cycle — say Color A for 6 rows, then Color B for 8 rows, over and over — and a cycle that's 14 rows long only divides evenly into a total row count that's a multiple of 14. Most projects aren't planned around that constraint, so somewhere around row 180 of a 14-row cycle you'll hit row 182 or 168 instead, meaning the final stripe gets cut short partway through. That's not a mistake, it's just where the math lands; this calculator shows you exactly which color that final partial stripe is and how many rows short of a full stripe it runs, so it doesn't catch you by surprise at the very end of a blanket.
Buying yarn per color ahead of time
Because a repeating stripe sequence doesn't split rows evenly across colors unless every stripe height is identical, the color with the tallest stripe in your sequence will need proportionally more yarn than the others — a sequence of 6-row Color A and 12-row Color B stripes means Color B uses twice the yardage of Color A across the whole project, not an even split. Estimating yards per row from one already-worked stripe (or a gauge swatch) and entering it above turns the row totals into a shopping list per color, which is the more useful number when you're trying to decide how many skeins of each to buy before starting.
Adjusting a sequence that doesn't fit cleanly
If the partial final stripe bothers you, the fix is almost always easier on the total row count than the stripe heights: adding or removing a handful of rows elsewhere in the project (a slightly taller or shorter border, an extra or omitted plain round) to land the total on a multiple of the cycle length keeps every stripe intact. Reworking the stripe heights themselves to force a fit tends to throw off the visual rhythm of the pattern, since stripe proportions are usually chosen for how they look side by side rather than for their arithmetic convenience.
